Theme updates not working

Problem with theme editor/theme store themes when updating to new version of theme

As of the past few days (from around 20th March 2026), when updating a theme to the latest version, all previous global customizations are getting wiped (logo file wiped and all settings reset).

This issue started happening for merchants using our theme in the past few days. Prior to this, everything worked normally.

I have been informed by Shopify Support that this is a known internal Shopify issue affecting several (or all) official Shopify themes.

Is it possible this was triggered by the recent theme editor update?

Any update or timeline on fix of this issue?

We have the exact same issue with our theme (Ignite). It’s causing us lots of support and looking forward to a speedy resolution.

Just a note @Andrew_Winter - if you keep trying to perform the update, we find that eventually one update works. It may take 5-10 attempts though.
